New Whitepaper: Unlocking Europe’s Potential in Advanced Therapies

The whitepaper builds on a high-level expert roundtable hosted at the Nordic Embassies in Berlin and reflects Oslo Cancer Cluster’s commitment to fostering collaboration across industry, academia, healthcare, and policy to accelerate the translation of cutting-edge research into patient benefit.

Bringing together leading voices from across Europe’s advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMP) ecosystem, the paper outlines how stronger public-private partnerships, specialised “lighthouse hubs,” and coordinated investment in manufacturing and infrastructure can strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in cell and gene therapies while supporting sustainable innovation.  It covers critical issues and solutions to them, including:

• The duplication of scientific effort within Europe, and how the establishment of discipline-leading hubs would hasten the development and lower the costs of new technologies.
• The lack of financing available for ambitious biotech projects, and how public-private partnerships would both enable small companies to grow and boost Europe's economy.
• Europe's missing manufacturing infrastructure, and how cross-application of technologies used elsewhere, like Industry 4.0, would ensure that once Europe invents new type of therapy, it can also prodcue them at scale.
• The differing mindsets in academia and industry, and how closer collaboration and sharing of prior learnings will unlock improved collaboration.
